Thomas Tuchel Criticizes Home Crowd Support Following Dominant Win Over Wales.
Thomas Tuchel expressed his regret that the England team did not enjoy more support from the Wembley spectators during their decisive friendly win against Wales on Thursday evening.
Tuchel was satisfied to see his side maintain their good form, with finishes from Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Saka inside the opening quarter settling the game. However, he was not content with the atmosphere at the national stadium.
“We had one and a half sessions to prepare against a organized team and we excelled,” the coach commented. “We could have been five goals ahead at half-time. We couldn’t score the fourth and fifth goals. There was little noise. There was no any energy back from the stands. We did everything to win.”
“How much more can you deliver in the first quarter? We didn’t let them get away. If you hear just the Welsh supporters for 30 minutes, it’s sad because the squad warranted more support today.”
“I support my words. There’s nothing more than being 3-0 in a derby. I would have wished for a bit more support in phases where it is challenging.”
“In the second half, to support us, there was a bit too much backing for the opposition. It could have helped us to refocus, but that’s football and that is it.”
Squad Decisions Justified by Performance
Apart from risking a fight with fans, the manager also caused a stir by excluding Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. But the choice was justified by Rogers delivering another standout performance in the attacking midfield role and netting his maiden goal for his country.
“He plays his game,” Tuchel explained. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is fighting for his position.”
Wales Manager Seeks Improvement from Defeat
Craig Bellamy hopes that his team, who face a strong Belgian side in a crucial World Cup qualifier on next week, take lessons from their disappointing performance in the opening period.
“That’s the reason I wanted this game,” Bellamy stated. “I need to see where we are. What are our ambitions? What is our identity? This performance gives me inspiration.”
Injury Concern for Watkins
Watkins was substituted at the break after clattering into a post and may miss out when the national team face their next opponents in the Latvian capital in a World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday.
